If you are a fan of cleaning your home with natural ingredients then you should also try out doing your laundry with natural ingredients. You can completely ditch all commercial products – even your laundry detergent, and make it on your own.
Ever since I discovered that I could make my own laundry detergent I haven’t bought one from the store. It’s a great way to save money and avoid those harsh chemicals that are in commercial products!
Keep in mind – I make powdered laundry detergent!
Of course, there is a reason behind this decision. I have found that liquid laundry detergent requires more ingredients, takes longer to make, and you need to use it fast.
But when it’s powdered the shelf-life is longer, you don’t need many ingredients, and most importantly – it’s so easy to make!
Here is the recipe!
Now that you are ready to make your powdered laundry detergent you need to prepare the ingredients:
- A bar of shaved bar soap
- A cup and a half borax
- A cup and a half of washing soda
I like to mix all my ingredients and blend them in a blender so I am able to create a fine powder which will easily dissolve even in cold water.
Once I blend everything I transfer it in a lidded jar and my laundry detergent is finished!
How much should you use? I normally use a tablespoon for a small load but you can experiment and figure it out.
